The Elora Women’s Film Society is hosting its second annual festival at the Elora Gorge Cinema on April 23 from 11:30am to 4pm.
Admission is $15. The guest speaker is Alberta Nye from Spirit Valley Films.
Nye has operated movie theatres on Salt Spring Island in B.C. and in Hawaii.
She has made a number of films including So I’m Dying…Now What about Margaret Hackman’s fascinating journey as she was dying. She is now working on a documentary called Signs of Life with those signs coming from those who have passed on.
The event provides an opportunity to learn about the intriguing work of a Canadian documentary maker. The films this time include Company of Strangers and Sweet Dreams. The first is a about women stranded in an isolated location who develop friendships and many kinds of survival skills. The second sees a women’s drumming group in Rwanda become a way to heal and renew and then evolve to the shared business of an ice cream shop.
Organizers promise an interesting and entertaining Sunday of films and friendship sponsored by the Elora Women’s Film Society.
